I melt the cabbage at the stop. Cut it in wedges and cooked seperately from the meat. I utilize ane/2 cooking liquid from the meat and 1/2 chicken goop with butter added to the liquid. Cooked until simply crisp tender. Gives the cabbage a lovely flavor, information technology stays green and doesn't get all mushy.

This recipe is very good as written and is very easy to make. I always like to read the reviews and make the recipe the original way and and then again and tweek to reviews as needed, I like helpful constructive reviews. The only frustrating affair is when people alter the whole recipe. They should send in their own. Tracey did non even annotate on this recipe,(non certain if she tried information technology) put hers in the reviews and said her family volition only consume hers. That is great merely I feel it is a disrespectful to the persons recipe. Please send in slight changes to help us, do non rewrite. Give thanks yous

Absolutely delicious. I started out by cooking this on the stove peak every bit the recipe states (for virtually 45 minutes) but due to a family emergency, I had to get out the firm. Before leaving, I put the meat and liquid into my crock pot. By the fourth dimension I got home, the meat was perfectly cooked (45 minutes on stove, then 7 hours in crock pot for an nigh 3 lb. roast). I took the communication of some other reviewers and added 1/ii stick of butter to the liquid every bit the meat cooked and I as well used beef broth instead of water. The next 24-hour interval on the stovetop I cooked the cabbage, carrots and potatoes in the liquid the meat cooked in the dark earlier. When the vegetalbes were washed, I added the meat back into the liquid merely to warm it. It was SOOOOOO good!! I will definitely make this once more!!

Fantastic! I have always kind of "winged" it with corned beef and cabbage, with varying degrees of success. I read many of the reviews and added a canteen of beer to the water to simmer the meat in. WOW! This is information technology! From now on, no more than winging it! For spices, I used the packet seasonings, some minced garlic. Added unpeeled scarlet potatoes, onion slices, baby carrots and of course cabbage wedges.

this is my first time making corned beef and cabbage, and my fiance and i thought it was terrfic, the meat was very tender and juicy while the vegetables was absolutley superb & tasty. The corned beef was iii.75 lbs that came along with the spice packet, instead of water i used beef broth, added 6 large cloves of garlic, ane large white onion cut upwards into wedges, 2 bay leaves, 12 whole peppercorns, ten small red potatoes/carrots, iii tbls of butter to bring out the richness of gustation ... all in a crockpot -- it took me 8 hours to melt this dinner and it was worth every minute of information technology.

I did non have to cook this recipe, this is the same as my grandpa always fabricated it. To the people out the writing reviews adding beefiness broth and what not . . THIS IS NOT Beef STEW! IT IS Non SUPPOSED TO Sense of taste LIKE IT. If yous change the recipe so you are making something else. This is exactly how you make Irish corned beef and cabbage. If you alter information technology, and then you are making something else.

Jeepers, it needs onions! Everything except desserts needs onions!
03/17/2013
This volition exist the fouth time using this recipe and it is simple and yummy. The minor changes I do is cut up the potatoes and utilize small-scale carrots that I don't have to cut or pare. I don't understand why the well-nigh helpful review on hither does not follow this recipe at ALL! Delight post your ain recipe and permit people review it. I notice it Not helpful to me when reading reviews. If you add Beef broth, dark-brown sugar, mushrooms, onions, even beer. I tin can understand one or ii changes but all that is something different and so Corned beefiness and cabbage.

Thanks again for a wonderful recipe but thanks also to all who write these great reviews. Information technology is so nice to read what cooks remember of the dish they make. Yesterday I made this Corned Beefiness & Cabbage & in my 45 years married to wonderful Irish husband he tells his Italian wife that it was the all-time yet. WOW! What is funny to me nigh Allrecipes.com is that now whenever I come up with a new dish, friends or family will say: Allrecipe.com?? They know me by now. The reviews helped so much on these recipes. The problem I had with this is that there were no spice packets in the pkg. so I but did my own thing…4 garlic cloves, crushed, pepper corns, mustard corns, 2 bay leaves, pepper, dry mustard & the only change I fabricated was adding bottle of beer. When the beef was washed I put it in a dish, covered with foil. Then cooked my veggies in those wonderful juices till not quite done. When they were washed I put them in a dish with broth, covered with foil & put in a warm oven till I was prepare to serve. Sliced my cooled downwards beef, put in a xiii X 9 dish covered with foil put in oven till ready to serve. I did brand the Horseradish sauce and it was very good as well, simply I plant that information technology was cold next to the nice hot corned beef. I'm sticking to Grey Poupon….Also a little sprinkle of white vinegar on cabbage is not bad. Also helps with any problem that may occur after!! ? Outstanding!! Wow…great recipe. Thank you Laria and cheers all with the great reviews. Nana Happy St. Patrick's D

All-time Corned Beef and Cabbage Ever!! I didn't change a matter and it turned out perfect!! Super simple recipe with astonishing results! YUM
12/22/2009
Straightforward recipe that turned out a tasty boiled dinner. The only thing I'd do differently adjacent time is skim the acme once it boils the start time and and so add the spices.
01/28/2004
I executed the recipe as is (can't truly rate it otherwise tin yous?) and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Timing is very subjective of course, depending on the the kind of pot you utilize (enamelled atomic number 26, steel...), your stovetop (gas, electric, element of group vii...) or oven (regular, convection...), just the times given in the original recipe are a very skilful approximate - simply call up that tenderness is what you aim for. My only addition was a generous swirl of sugariness butter in the strained broth before serving; information technology adds a lovely richness to the sauce. Eight thumbs up (at that place were 4 of u.s.a.)!
03/16/2006
This is the way it'due south done. We always told my mother to make extra veggie'southward because nosotros knew what was coming the adjacent day and that was the best role. The next day was cold sliced corned beefiness and my mother'south vegetable fry. She would chop upward all the leftover potatoes, carrots and cabbage and fry up in a well seasoned iron skillet.. what she used as base, butter I call back, she would let cook until it got crispy, then turn and practise over again. To this day, I tin not duplicate only keep trying. Endeavor it you lot will love it. A medley of flavour..

I've been doing it this fashion for over 30 years. In the last one-half hour I'll pull the brisket from the pot, put information technology in a roaster and comprehend it with 1/iv cup of brown sugar and place covered in the oven with just a small amt of juice in the bottom. The brown saccharide will melt and create a wonderful glaze for the corned beef. While the beef is in the oven I'll use the liquid in the pot for the veges and and so I'll besides add a layer of dumplings to the top after the veges begin to boil. Luv information technology so much that I do information technology more than than just Patty's Day

The perfect simple Corned Beefiness recipe. There's enough of ways to fix this meat, but if you want simple and delicious simply follow along and you lot won't be disappointed. I am unremarkably a recipe "modder" I seem to ever be adjusting quantities and adding things. However lately I take been just trying recipes as they are written to find out how the author likes information technology. This i was fantastic! I was very skeptical of the simplicity, merely wow it but was keen! Thanks alot!

Smashing recipe. added tracey hint: I have the corned beefiness out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smoothen. 1/3 cup of chocolate-brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 loving cup of ketchup, and three tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to 40 mins. at 350 will do it. Promise you like information technology, all of my friends who hate corned beef will only eat mine!

Lovely people, This recipe is wonderful written 'as is' - simply I'd like to speak to those of yous who are aggravated about people changing upwardly the recipe and and then rating it, since 'changing it up' actually doesn't give you an authentic review of the recipe as written. I have this to offer: Some of us use what'southward on-paw rather than going out and buying ingredients specific to the recipe. I find this very helpful on occasion because i) yous might not have to go shopping if you utilize the substitutes or ii) you can learn a different way to apply a spice or other ingredient - which but makes you a improve cook. Also - I've found a few recipe reviewers who have taken allergies into consideration. Sometimes those 'change ups' can exist invaluable and salvage time when you don't have to scour the Internet trying to notice a way to omit a sure ingredient but notwithstanding get the full effect of the dish. I, too, am sometimes frustrated with the review arrangement - simply if you try to empathize where the reviewer is coming from, sometimes you tin make a 'just okay' dish into something completely out of your original realm of thinking. Tolerance, folks ... but past the mere fact that people take the time to review dishes, even if they do modify them a fleck, shows they care enough to share their information with y'all. Happy cooking!

I add one more step (succulent) afterward you remove the corned beef from the liquid, castor the summit with regular prepared mustard and then add together a thin layer of light brown suger on elevation of the mustard, put into a 350 oven for about thirty min.
04/03/2012
I stock-still this 4 times in March. I do believe that it is the all-time Corned beef and Cabbage recipe. I take a very good Irish friend of 75 yrs erstwhile and she told me it was the best she e'er had...and preceded to tell it to the owners of a 100 yr sometime Irish deli and store. I cooked it in simply guiness beer and beefiness goop. Added peppercorns, bay leaf and onions. When the meat was tender I removed it from the pot and glazed it with a tart Orangish marmalade, brownish mustard and brown sugar glaze and wrapped in foil and put it in the oven. And so I strained the broth, so added the potatoes and carrots and a stick of butter. I cooked the cabbage (I used savoy cabbage) in a separate skillet, braising information technology in the goop with butter until cooked but still crispy. Made a Horseradish sauce of 3/4 sour cream, 1/iv horseradish, 1 tlbs dried chives and the juice of 1/2 lemon. This recipe will impress anyone yous serve information technology to.
08/10/2008
Good recipe. The corned beefiness is really great when served topped with a horseradish dressing. i/2 cup mayo, ane/2 cup sourcream and horseradish to sense of taste.
03/12/2009
This has been my standard recipe for years. I have constitute one thing that takes it to the top. After the corned beefiness is washed cooking I remove it from the pot or crock pot and meridian it with a glaze of mustard and dark-brown carbohydrate. Yous can mix it to your liking. I make a lot and let it drip down all the sides. I and then put it in the oven until it is heated through and the brownish sugar is dissolved. Then slice and enjoy.
03/xiv/2012
I concur with others...skip the crock pot...the old fashioned way works best. I similar to cook the corned beef, remove from h2o and wrap in aluminum foil to keep hot. Then I strain the water to become out the peppercorns and re-use to cook potatoes, carrots and cabbage. This way yous don't seize with teeth into a large peppercorn hiding in the cabbage.
03/20/2007
As per some of the suggestions, I used 2 cans of beer & 2 cans of beef goop instead of water and cooked it for seven hours in the crockpot. I besides added 3 cloves of garlic and an onion to the crockpot. I should have given the potatoes and carrots 90 minutes. I simply allowed for 30 and dinner was quite tardily. Even my husband liked it who swore he hates corned beefiness and has never liked cabbage - simply he ate it all!
03/11/2012
this was fabulous, first I boiled the corned beefiness on pinnacle of stove in water, i guinness, one bay leaf, the spice packet, and one shot of Jameson whiskey, I followed the communication of another review which said to coat the corned beef for the concluding forty minutes with the i/3 cup dark-brown sugar, 2tbsp melted butter, ane tbsp prepared mustard, i/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, bake twoscore minutes at 350degrees while the vegetables are cooking, cut the corned beefiness across the grain. Serve with soda staff of life. It is soooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ane
03/02/2005
Just a note that may help in cooking this meal, Add some Caraway seeds when y'all add the cabbage. It will help to get rid of the gas that y'all will probably get from eating the cabbage.
09/15/2006
Traditional corned beef for St. Patrick's Day.. or any other time of the year when you can't stand to have it only once! ***UPDATE: I made this again this yr and it was absolutely delicious, merely with these alterations: I used one can of Guiness, beef broth, and a h2o to boil the meat. In improver to the spice bundle, I added 2-3 tbsp. mustard seeds, whole blackness peppercorns, and iii bayleaves. The cabbage took about 20 minutes to melt even when I turned upward the temp (I took out the meat). I would recommend 2 heads of cabbage b/c I similar the cabbage. I used near an entire (save the few I snacked on while cooking) 1 lb. bag of baby carrots and 12 baby ruddy potatoes. I wouldn't omit the potatoes b/c they absorb a lot of the salt and you can end up with a really salty roast. Anyhow, this recipe is a neat starting bespeak, but with additions it tin be crawly... and it was! Everybody gobbled information technology upward on St. Patty's. Thank you!
03/17/2012
This was very good! The only alter I made was to add 3 large cloves of chopped garlic. I too fabricated a sauce for the brisket as mentioned by a member named Tracey. This is what she said... "I take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until shine. 1/3 cup of brownish carbohydrate,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, ane/three cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smoothen, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. thirty to forty mins. at 350 will practice information technology. Hope you similar it, all of my friends who hate corned beefiness will only eat mine!"... Tracey's sauce recipe was PERFECT!!! I'll make my corned beef like this from now on!
02/05/2013
Good, basic and functional - what I'd call a reference recipe. I did mine in the slow cooker and added a bottle of Guiness Draught with plenty water to cover. I cooked the cabbage separately in some of the cooking liquid. Reliable, merely more instructional than a unique recipe.
02/17/2014
I'thou Irish. VERY Irish. And this is my GO TO recipe for corned beefiness and cabbage. I only gave information technology three stars, and then why is it my Go To?? I gave information technology 3 stars based on how it tastes as-is. It's my Go To because information technology keeps the recipe simple. Here's the thing - you don't have to do anything fancy to make astonishing, over-the-peak corned beef and cabbage. People think information technology needs to be complicated. It doesn't!! The ONLY thing I added and information technology makes a HUGE difference - ane/2 jar of McCormick Pickling Spice. I forgot this ingredient once and never will again.
05/04/2009
this is the best corned beef and cabbage i have ever tasted an perpared, subed beefiness broth for water and cooked veggies in broth......wow i couldnt cease eating.THANKS? LOL
03/17/2014
I followed the recipe exactly as written. Oh, except I changed a million things. By the fourth dimension it was finished, it was an entirely dissimilar meal. Loved information technology!
03/13/2011
I just made this recipe this evening. I didn't change a single thing! IT WAS Awesome!!!
06/05/2013
Cut off the big fat then comprehend the corn beef with beefiness broth Add peppercorns, bay leaf and onions to spice packet. Earlier adding the spice packet, you first bring the meat to a boil and skim the foamy stuff off the top of the water.. cook meat @ 50 min. per lb Have the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'south are cooking in the liquid, Add together some Caraway seeds when you add the cabbage. Glaze for brisket Put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. 1/3 loving cup of brownish sugar,ii tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till shine, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. xxx to 40 mins. at 350 will do information technology.
12/28/2009
Hi, quick question. If I want to finish this in the oven do I shorten the original cooking time? Thanks
02/28/2011
Oh my gosh! Wonderful. I prepared information technology correct by the recipe. My family of 5 gobbled up a ii.seven pound corned beef brisket in no fourth dimension. In that location wasn't much conversation at this meal, except that they were begging me to cook this again fifty-fifty before nosotros were washed eating. Will definately melt again!
03/eleven/2009
My married man and I enjoyed this very much. Our kids had never eaten Corn beefiness, and so they were on the fence, however for them. They loved the veggies very very much. I placed this in the crock pot/slow cooker all mean solar day. I used a 6qt on high. My pot was really full so the cabbage I placed in ane 1/ii hours out from serving dinner. All the veggies were soo skilful. The meat was very tender, flavored well and soo like shooting fish in a barrel to cleave up for slices. Will brand this once more for hubby and I.
09/08/2008
This is the same recipe my grandma taught me simply to save time, I put everything in the crock pot.
11/03/2002
Wonderful recipe! I would definately brand this over again. However, I would change a couple of things. Kickoff, if the corned beef you purchase has an excessive amount of fat on the underside as many of them do, trim the fat. Also, practise as ane reviewer suggested, add beef broth instaed of water. I also added an onion. Loved this easy to brand recipe. Attempt it.
03/14/2009
I made this one last week and it was really adept. I rinsed off the beef when I took information technology out of the package, then proceeded as directed. I used regular potatoes, peeled and cut in half instead of the cherry potatoes and they worked fine. I cooked the potatoes and carrots virtually thirty minutes before calculation the cabbage. The meat was very tender and the veggies cooked merely right.
03/18/2009
I wait all year for this meal but I had never fabricated it myself until this year. A friend gave me the communication to pull the beef out of the pot when you put the veggies in, sprinkle brownish sugar on top and broil it at 350' until the veggies and cabbage are done. It was And then proficient! Please try this!!!
01/08/2014
Followed exactly and it was fantastic. Husband wants more!
03/14/2009
I don't even like corned beef and cabbage and this was a striking! For the most function, I stuck to the recipe. Just added one canteen of Harp beer, a Tbs. of minced garlic and a dash of celery salt. I did non include the potatoes with the meat considering nosotros were having some other potato sidedish, but I recollect they would've been skillful cooked in the pot. I cooked a 3 i/4lb. slice of meat for almost 4 hours and it shredded beautifully. Neat recipe!
01/09/2012
Xclnt, easy dish! made this a few times. I use a VERY large pot. I added one can of light beer, and about ii cups of apple juice. So filled the residuum with h2o to cover meat. 45mins before brisket should be done, I add carrots and potatoes. 20mins before everything is done, I added the cabbage. YUM-O!
12/10/2006
OH MY! So much for following the recipe. While my beef was simmering in 8 cups of water for 2.v hrs, I took a siesta. The water all evaporated and the beef burned. Time to commencement once more. A glass of wine for me, or maybe two, a fresh brisket, and one-half once again as much water.
06/xvi/2008
I have been making this for years. I as well add a bottle of beer. I also apply new potatos and celery, carrots, onion, fresh snap peas, fresh garlic, black pepper corns, mustard seed, dill seed, and lemon juice. Cherry pepper and bell pepper. I can eat this for days. I don't trim the fat. The fatty is one of my favorite parts. This is one of the very few recipes I make that I am not fat conscious about. This and steaks. I can consume this soup for days 6 times a day!
03/17/2011
This is the classic preparation. I follow this procedure with a few changes: Cutting the cabbage into large chunks and steam it separately until tender. Add equally much butter as your diet will permit :) and season with salt and pepper. When the corned beef is fully cooked, remove it and put it in a baking dish. Mix mustard and chocolate-brown sugar to make a very thick paste. Spread the paste on tiptop of the corned beef. Put the meat nether the broiler until it bubbles and crisps. By cooking the cabbage separately and calculation the brown sugar paste yous'll enjoy more diverseness of flavors and you'll get a lilliputian crunch for texture.
02/26/2007
This was my start time making Corned Beef and Cabbage and this recipe is definitely a keeper. I will be making this again! I used the carmine flat corned beef, turnip, peeled potatoes (both cherry-red and Russet - couldn't tell the difference in taste), carrots, cabbage, white onion. My corned beef did not come up w/ a spice packet, but when the meal is complete, the taste is still to dice for. I added a picayune salt and pepper and a fleck of garlic, only there is really no need to.
03/19/2004
I'thou a rookie when it comes to cooking. In fact, I accept never cooked a complete meal before attempting this recipe. On St. Patrick's day, my wife was working and I wanted to surprise her with a corn beefiness and cabbage dinner when she got habitation. The directions were easy to follow and the finished production was outstanding! I also made corn bread (my first attempt at baking bread). I used craven broth instead of just water every bit some others had recommended. The carrots and potatoes were actually practiced as well!! I was really surprised how delecious the meal turn out and and then was my married woman!!
ten/04/2005
Dearest this recipe! Other reviewers propose adding beef broth, peppercorns, etc., but I think this comfort food is best made but, just like good 'ol mashed potatoes. Speaking of potatoes, if you decide not to utilize them, expect the broth to exist pretty salty since the potatoes absorb a good corporeality of salt during the cooking process. Too, for those with kids, brew the potatoes and carrots together (or separately) with a fork, add a little butter, and they'll probably love it! Mine did (age 6 and 7).
03/14/2011
used 4.7lb beef, two heads cabbage, vii med yellowish taters . Cooked beef 3hr20min,added taters cook 1 hr, added cabbage . cooked 30-35min till cabbabe tender merely crispy ! great !!!
10/11/2002
YUM! I added extra peppercorns & beef broth instead of water (as others suggested), classic cb&c, we honey it! My picky daughter ate left over craven with the potatoes & carrots ;)Thanks Laria!
12/25/2006
if y'all desire to add a flake more color and maybe a hint more than sweetness to this recipe, effort red cabbage with the green, it is wonderful.
03/16/2012
Adding a store bought spice mix and calculation it to water is not a recipe.
01/01/2011
Simply perfect! Fifty-fifty hubby liked it and he is not a veggie lovin guy so I wasn't certain about the cabbage but he went dorsum for thirds!
12/18/2013
OMG This is so tasty information technology'due south to die for! Yous don't demand Whatever other seasoning other than the trivial packet that comes with the beef, not even common salt. The meat itself does all the seasoning and flavoring for you. Don't be scared about how your cabbage will taste! Another little tip - ADD SOME ONIONS. I love onions and it makes everything that much amend!! :) My family devoured this pot!
08/17/2002
Somewhat tasteless - won't melt once more.
02/01/2011
I beloved this recipe as it is, but I institute making two minor modifications makes information technology even better (at least in my family's opinion). Offset, add together a one-half-cup or so of cooking sherry to the pot before starting. Second, supplant the cabbage with i-1.v pounds of Brussels sprouts. It makes for a nice twist on an old favorite.
01/28/2011
Fabulous! Like a another reviewer, I had always winged it when it came to corned beefiness & cabbage. I followed this recipe to a tee and absolutely everything came our PERFECT! Corned Beef tender and starting to autumn autonomously - which I dear - and the potatoes, carrots and cabbage were perfectly soft but not soggy. From here on out, this will be THE recipe to use!
03/15/2010
This is amazing! I used another reviewers tip and used one can of beer and three large cloves garlic pressed through my garlic printing (then enough h2o to cover beefiness and adding the spices from the bundle) and added 1 whole stick of butter at the same fourth dimension I added the cabbage. I too cut my potatoes because they were fairly big red potatoes and that worked well. Great Not bad Great Recipe!!!!
03/xi/2011
I prepared this just similar the directions and my family just loved it!!
03/09/2014
Everything is okay until the full lack of onions. Ane onion, white or xanthous, medium small per person.
03/xv/2011
Really, real Irish don't even eat this. It'due south an American Irish immigrant tradition from when this cut of meat was nearly the cheapest bachelor. the poorer they were, the less that went into information technology. They also didn't have the overnice little spice packet either. Anyhow, add together the carrots, garlic, and if yous feeling sassy, add broccoli tips. boil with a guinnes
12/31/2012
This recipe is perfect. I had never fabricated corned beef before considering I did not similar information technology as a child, but my husband is Irish and really missed it. I tried this skeptically -- Nosotros all loved it! At present my kids request it all the time. The best office most it is that the cabbage simply cooks through, so it is non mushy and tasteless. It has a wonderful, fresh flavor and is very easy to make.
03/12/2009
Nosotros did non care for this at all! The veggies were non done enough & the cooktime wasn't long enough to disperse the flavors. I recall it needs to be cooked all day.
03/15/2010
I made this Sun, it was to die for. My husband but loved the beef, said information technology was the best he has e'er eaten. Thank you
01/01/2013
Perfect and easy! I tried corned beefiness final year in a pressure cooker, information technology tasted nada like this. This is like shooting fish in a barrel. I made it exact to instructions with a 3 lb corned beef. Fifty-fifty my family liked the carrots, and no ane in my family likes cooked carrots. Nosotros merely voted to have this on a normal rotation for dinner instead of just new years day and St. Patrick'southward 24-hour interval.
04/04/2011
made as written. Information technology was skillful. The 2nd time I added a little red wine and water, iii bay leaves, 3 whole cloves of garlic, ii stalks celery,3 carrots,1/2 onion, and spice packet. Left the potatoes out. Added cabbage last hr of cooking. Turned out perfect!
05/12/2009
This is the kickoff time my corned beef came out groovy. Thanks for the recipe
01/21/2012
This is an excellent recipe! The but other affair I add is an onion.
03/14/2009
Amazing. The pot I used was a trivial small, so information technology was a tight fit, just I made it work. Delicious carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and such tender corned beef. A fantastic recipe.
03/04/2003
This is a great recipe. Very easy, which is important. Using beef goop was a practiced proffer, however the meat that I used could have cooked a piddling longer and the cabbage was a little under done, probably 25 min would be better than 15. Just overall it was very tasty and the whole family loved it!
03/14/2007
Nosotros cook this recipe every year at our St. Patty'due south Day party (sans the potatoes, add together more cabbage), and our party grows every year due to word of oral fissure about the corned beefiness. Concluding year we hosted over 100 people and went through half dozen large crockpots of corned beefiness and cabbage.
05/21/2006
Great recipe! I used a giant roaster for this meal since we similar a lot cabbage. This recipe is fool proof and ever comes out perfect. I practice put my carrots in with the meat cooking procedure since my family likes softer carrots and I add together the potatos and cabbage together so you lot get no tough cabbage in the end. Thanks for the recipe!
03/14/2015
I take tried many recipes like this and they are all good. I'chiliad directing my comments to all the negative people out there. Leave it solitary, everyone knows it is not an Irish dish It is a wonderful i pot meal Stay positive and bask. Accept a wonderful family twenty-four hours enjoying this meal.
02/27/2011
practice not add more cookin' for xtra briskets...50 min. per lb..

"What's more Irish than a traditional recipe for corned beef and cabbage?" The answer is - lots of things! Corned beef and cabbage is not a traditional Irish dish. Built-in and bred in Republic of ireland, I was in my 50's when I spent some fourth dimension in the US and was told that everyone eats corned beef and cabbage on St. Paddy's Day. I had never heard of it and I still have never tasted it. When I came home from that trip I did ask around, in case I somehow had missed this vital function of Irish tradition, merely, no, I have yet to see whatever Irish gaelic national who has actually eaten corned beef and cabbage. Further research has taught me that, in fact, Irish immigrants to America began eating corned beef, which they bought from Jewish butchers, because of their new-found affluence. At home, in Republic of ireland, it was merely the very wealthy who could beget to eat beef. So, eating corned beef on Paddy's Day is really an American-Irish-Jewish tradition.

Wow, I listened to the reviews. I added ten pepper corns, three cloves of garlic, i bay foliage. I cooked a iv pound trimmed cut for three hours then moved it to the oven with Tracey's (her review is highly rated) sauce while I cooked the veggies. The best corn beef I take ever had. My family mowed through it. This should not be reserved for St Pats day. This is a world class meal....

This is the first time I have made corned beef and cabbage this way. Normally I brand it in the crock pot. I always worried about it not coming out tender if it was boiled. This recipe was perfect, the simply affair I added was a can of beer for more than flavor. I will be making information technology this mode from now on. Bye bye crock pot recipe!

Good template for a superb archetype dish. I highly recommend using a can or two low-sodium beefiness broth instead of water, which actually enhances flavor without oversalting the recipe. If yous're a garlichead like me effort tossing in five or 6 cloves when you start the meat, and brew them into the stock after they cook to tender.

The all-time e'er! I accept tried everything from baking, steaming, to slow cooking. Nothing compares to this one. The only deviation was, I added 1 peeled onion whole, a tabular array spoon of alspice, and several bay leaves. Wow, this is the only 1 for u.s.a..

This is the way to do it! Comes out perfect. I but make 2 pocket-sized changes. I actually simply let the cabbage boil mayhap v minutes. I like information technology to be much crispier. And, I actually don't similar the spice parcel. Comes out just great without it.

First of all, allow me state I am not a corned beefiness fan. I decided to embrace my 12.v % Irish blood in me on a whim this morning and make something in honor of St. Patrick's Twenty-four hours. Stumbled upon this recipe with such rave reviews that I dashed out to the market in search of a 3 lb corned beef and some soda bread...got Guinness as an impulse item to authenticate the meal while I was at it, and glad I did since I used the reviewers suggestions and gave upward two of the bottles for the pot. I warned my husband of almost 25 years that if nosotros didn't like the meat, there were enough of veggies to sustain us. All I tin say is I tin no longer say I'm not a corned beef fan...though so far I only like my own recipe (see how quickly something I acquire becomes my own--it'due south a Greek thing)! I added one whole onion, 3 cloves of garlic (I beloved garlic and next time I'll add together more), 1 TBSP Allspice and doubled the carrots and cabbage. Not big into potatoes, but the family is, and potatoes are just so Irish gaelic. Simmered 3 hours, then added potatoes for 15 min, then the carrots for another fifteen so cabbage for the concluding fifteen. I heated up purchased Irish Soda Bread while the cabbage simmered. I served the meal on a large platter with the meat against one side of the platter, with the veggies surrounding the meat--I put the potatoes on i side of the meat, the carrots on the other side and the cabbage between, surrounding the meat for a colorful presentation. The adults were given Guinness Bottles a

Delicious. We enjoyed this very much. I had no ruby-red potatoes, so I used vi medium-sized russets I had already, peeled and quartered. I layered the potatoes and carrots on the bottom of my crock pot and put the meat on top. My cabbage did not fit in my crock, so I laid it on acme of the meat. I filled it halfway with water, threw in a few beef bullion cubes and let it cook. Every bit the crock filled with juice I pushed the cabbage down a bit. I cooked information technology on high for 5 hours or so and everything was great. Loved it. I don't think it needed the beef bullion. Very flavorful broth!

This was my showtime fourth dimension making corned beef, and I will definitely be making it again! The procedure is and then easy, if somewhat lengthy, but the results are well worth it. I used half of the seasoning packet included in the package with the meat, and also took the recommended communication of using beef broth as the cooking liquid. When it was done cooking, I found the meat to be too salty, so I took the advice of another user and fabricated a simple glaze out of brown carbohydrate, mustard, butter, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar, and then put the beef in a small baking pan and baked information technology at 350 for half an 60 minutes while the veggies cooked in the on the stove. I was a little skeptical, but the event was an extremely tender, salty-sugariness brisket that went perfectly with the vegetables.

I prepare this dish quite often equally my family loves it! I only add, during the concluding one/2 hour, the potatoes and carrots around the beef then place cabbage wedges on top of everything to steam, cover and finish cooking. Also, to serve Practise please endeavour a generous corporeality of French's Mustard on the sliced corn beef and butter on the veggies ...it's just heavenly!

Information technology got my 6 year old daughter to swallow cabbage. My married woman and two year old son are non too keen on corned beef, but the child and I dear corned beef (specially common cold leftovers). This recipe was simple and perfect. I haven't added cabbage since my daughter was born, just I thought I would requite it a shot. I did add together onions, fresh garlic, actress mustard seed, and celery, but on the whole it would have been easy and succulent regardless. I also cutting upward the red potatoes and carrots and boiled them off 10 min before adding the cabbage, then boiled off the cabbage for x min, then returned the rested beef to the pot for another 10-15 min on simmer. Anyway you do information technology, it's like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious. Will add together mushrooms next time, I call up. If you cut your potatoes don't overcook. I also serve with Southern manner cornbread.

This recipe worked well. I did cook my brisket in water and the veggies turned out simply a bit bland. Next time I will try using beef broth every bit suggested by other reviewers. All in all a good recipe that I will employ again.
